things to do in dallas - fuel city tacos.

Ya'll. What a wild couple of weeks I've had. I'm finally settling down. Digging my new place in Oakcliff (holler) and my new roommate, Jamie, even more.

Especially because when she heard I'd never been to Fuel City Tacos, she knew she needed to fix that quick.

Fuel City Tacos has been on my ever-expanding list of must-dos in Dallas for a while now.
You'd never notice it if you drove past it on 35. It does a pretty good job at hiding out inside a gas station, but whoa; you are missing out if you've not tried these.
At $1.40 a pop, they truly can't be beat. Insane flavor, juicy meats, and super quick service. And they're open 24 hours! I'd go at 3am just for the people watching.

Don't forget to bring cash because that's all they accept.
And definitely get the chicken fajita taco. And apparently the elotes, which I learned they had after I'd already been. You'd better believe I'm going back for those soon.

Wanna come with me?

things i love - november.

Ya'll. These posts are my favorite to write, especially during a month when everyone is really reflecting on what they're thankful for.
I could go on and on about the things in my life that I'm grateful for and those that just make me smile a little extra during my day, so I'll start with a few here:
Early morning breakfasts with my soon-to-be roommate.

Late nights spent in my backyard staring at a full moon and quickly traveling clouds.

This quote from an NPR article about a favorite childhood author of mine.

Hello Kitty donuts and ones topped with Fruity Pebbles to make me feel like a kid again.

The gorgeous changing leaves to remind me that sometimes Texas does have seasons.

Highly anticipated restaurant openings.

My blue-eyed, chipmunk-cheeked, sweeeeet nephew!

This fantastic blog that I wish I'd come up with the idea for!

Happy month of Thanksgiving, ya'll!
What are a few things you're thankful for?

things i love - august

It's always around this time every year that I am juuuust about over the hot weather and begin craving cool breezes and falling leaves. Too bad I live in Texas and I don't have that to look forward to for at least another month.
In anticipation for Fall, I bought a bunch of sweaters, hoping Mother Nature would get the hint and accommodate me. It dropped to, like, 67 degrees one morning! It's a start, ya'll.

This month alone, I've crossed something off my 30 Before 30 list AND my Dallas To-Do List.
For my 30 Before 30, I crossed off: Take a cooking class.
I went to a Central Market Knife Skills class and learned so much! I loved it so much, in fact, that I'm actually taking another (baking this time!) in September. Highly recommend.
Then I got to cross Restaurant Week off my Dallas To-Do List. This is something that I'm glad I did, but maybe won't do again. We went to 2 different restaurants and it was like night and day. It's hard to say which one is the norm, but before we went to our first, I'd been reading some articles about how restaurants hate this event and, therefore, treat patrons as such.
Either way, I had some really great food at a really great price.

Other great things about this month:

bearded dogs who snuggle sleeping babies,

more and more commonly occurring meals with people I love,

delicious coffees that serve to remind me how blessed I am,

sweaty trips to the arboretum and brilliant colors,

faux-fancy meals from the comfort of my own home (recipe here),

smiling pups who love to play,

catching the sunrise before I start my workday.

Finally, other things I love, in no particular order: that my nephew is due ANY day now, this incredibly eye-opening photoblog about addiction and homelessness (warning: not for the faint of heart), and this sweet blog of a creative college friend!

things to do - Original El Fenix

Welcome to the first installment of another blog headliner that I'd like to keep up. I have an ever-growing list of things I want to do while I live in Dallas, so when I complete an item, I plan on sharing with you!
This particular item from the list was that I wanted to go to the original El Fenix. There are several locations around DFW, but the original is located on McKinney and has so much rich history! It's basically where Tex-Mex was created, so I'm pretty sure that makes it my mecca. Have I ever told ya'll that I bleed Tex-Mex? I do.

In other, related news: I am completely kicking myself right now for not taking my camera with me everywhere! That should have been one of my New Year's resolutions. If you'll please forgive the lack of pictures. All I had was my iPhone. Womp womp.
Anyway, onward!

This first picture is definitely not one that I took. You can find the original here.
I went at nighttime, so all my photos of the neon sign are blurry. But can't you just feel the delicious emanating through your computer screen? I know you can.

We went with our friends, the Shamlians! They are a blast and thought it was kind of goofy that this was on my list of Dallas To-Do's, but humored me anyway.

These chips are perfectly crispy and crunchy and I know you're probably thinking "all tortilla chips are alike", but you are so wrong, my friend!

Ideally, future posts of this nature will be much more content-filled. I promise to bring my camera from now on! I will also share my entire list with you in an upcoming post.
What's on your list of Things to Do in Dallas? I want to know!
